From August 23 to 26, 2023, the World Judo Championship was held in beautiful Zagreb, and the Partizan Judo Club had the honor of having three talented representatives at this prestigious competition.
Marko Jorgić, one of our prominent members, achieved notable success by winning fifth place. Marko began his journey to the medal by defeating a competitor from Tajikistan in the first round, and then continued to excel, defeating a competitor from Angola in the second round. Although he lost to a competitor from Azerbaijan in the quarterfinals, Marko did not give up. In the rematch, he achieved an impressive victory over a competitor from Egypt, but unfortunately, in the fight for bronze, he faced an extremely strong competitor from Kazakhstan.
Jelena Nisaović, also a member of our club, showed her talent and courage at this championship. In the first round, she was better than a competitor from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but, unfortunately, she lost in the second round to an extremely strong opponent from Korea. Regardless of this result, Jelena did her best and showed her potential for the future.
Bogdan Velicković, the third representative of the Partizan Judo Club, also won fifth place and thus added shine to his team. Bogdan started the competition by defeating a competitor from Ukraine in the first round and then continued to hone his skills by defeating an opponent from Korea in the second round. In the quarter-finals, he was unchallenged against competitors from the Netherlands, but in the semi-finals he lost to competitors from Georgia. In the fight for medals, he had a tough match against competitors from Azerbaijan, but unfortunately he did not manage to get a medal.
Nevena Pavlović, our debutant and junior cadet, after hard work during the summer, was given the opportunity by the club’s professional staff to perform at the World Championship and gain the necessary experience for the future. Unfortunately, Nevena lost in the first round to the group leader, a contestant from France.
Natalija Prolić, last year’s European bronze winner, who was unfortunately stopped in the first round by a contestant from Brazil.
These results are certainly challenging and demanding, but show how dedicated our competitors are to their sport. Judo club Partizan is proud of all its representatives and we believe that they will continue to work hard and progress. Congratulations to Mark, Jelena, Bogdan, Natalija and Nevena on their outstanding performance at the World Championships in Zagreb in 2023!
